5. Jhakoo temple
The Jhakoo Temple is situated on the outskirts of Shimla. It is a famous temple of the Indian God Hanuman Ji. It is situated at a height of 8000 feet above the sea level. The massive statue of Lord Hanuman which is 108 feet tall can be seen from far away. It is situated at one of the highest peaks of Shimla and is one of the most famous places to visit in Shimla. The history of the temple goes back to the ages of Ramayana and states that Lord Hanuman rested here while getting the Sanjivni Booty for Lord Lakshman.
4. The Ridge
The ridge is located near the mall road. It is one level above the mall. It connects various passages to important places in and around Shimla. It also is a lovely place for tourists. The iconic Christchurch in Shimla is located here.
3. Annadale
The Annadale is a serene location situated in a valley in Shimla. It has mesmerising views which will amaze you. It is famous for its Army museum but also has a cactus museum. A humungous sports field will add to the beauty of the pace. The army parade sports matches etc are organised in this ground. The first Durand cup match was played at this ground. A couple of helipads are also present in the premises. The area is controlled by the Indian Army.
2.The Mall
Mall Road is the main Street in Shimla. It was constructed by the British during the Colonial Rule. It is a level below the Ridge. All the important service's headquarters are located here like The fire department, the Police Department, The Civil Services. No vehicle is allowed on this road except emergency vehicles. It is the biggest tourist attraction in Shimla. It remains crowded throughout the year. The road has basically everything on it including cafes, shops, restaurants, showrooms etc. Visit to Shimla is incomplete without a visit to The Mall Road.
1. Indian Institute of Advanced Studies
the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies is also known as the viceroy lodge. It is a heritage building located at Observatory Hill in Shimla. It was designed by Sir Henry Irvin in Britain but it was assembled here, in India. Shimla was the summer capital of India during the British reign and the Viceroy of India used to stay here during the summers. It is a beautiful building. Its architecture is Scottish. After Independence too this building was of great significance as the president of India would stay here during the summers. But in the year 1965 Dr Radhaswamy, who was the president at that time donated the building to the IIAS.
